The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
